PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons offer students an opportunity to work one-on-one with their own teacher. In private lessons, students work on solos and specific playing techniques. At the end of every semester, students have the opportunity to perform in a recital in Fox Hall in the MSUM Roland Dille Center for the Arts.

Excused absences (absences that occur where advanced notice is given) can be made up during a mutually agreeable time, either in-person or virtually. • To report a student absence, please contact your teacher via phone. Refunds are not issued for lessons that the student cancels or misses.

  • Lessons cancelled by the teacher will be rescheduled at the earliest convenience of both the student and the teacher.

  • In the case of inclement weather where the campus of MSUM is closed (check www.mnstate.edu to check on campus status), lessons will either be rescheduled or held virtually. Please communicate with your teacher for a mutual decision on how lessons will be handled in the case of inclement weather.

Late Arrival:

  • Students are expected to be on time; time will not be added to a lesson to make-up for late arrivals. Teachers will wait 15 minutes before assuming that the student will be missing the lesson. Very rarely, and only in extenuating circumstances, will a teacher be tardy. If a teacher is late, the teacher will arrange for making up the lost time at a mutually convenient time.

Student Expectations:

  • Attend all lessons for the semester in which a student is registered.

  • Bring instrument (if applicable), music, and any other lesson materials the teacher requires to each lesson.

  • Be committed to practicing on a regular basis as advised by the teacher.

Student Discipline:

  • CSA teachers reserve the right to discontinue or terminate lessons for student disciplinary reasons. All CSA students are expected to behave with the highest respect to the MSUM School of Performing Arts facilities, CSA teachers, and other CSA students. CSA teachers reserve the right to immediately end any lesson due to disciplinary problems of any student. Disciplinary infractions of any kind will be referred first to the parents, and, if continuing, to CSA supervisors for disciplinary action. Disciplinary action may involve termination from the CSA program with tuition forfeited.
