The Community School for the Arts (CSA) is proud to offer specialized coaching sessions to music students who are preparing for auditions, competitions, and special performances or for students who simply want to play in a small ensemble.

Small Ensembles consist of two, three, or four students who play together. Each student has their own part in duets (two players), trios (three players), and quartets (four players). In these ensembles, there is no conductor; instead, students learn how to play with each other under the guidance and artistry of a teacher. Skills learned in playing in small ensembles apply to those needed to play in chamber orchestras and in larger symphony orchestras.
Small Ensemble Coaching Sessions are ideal for students who need:
-
Chamber ensemble skills
-
Audition preparation
-
Individualized instruction
-
Extra performance experience

We offer audition preparation for:
-
Concerto competitions (involving two or more soloists)
-
Programs such as National Public Radio's program From the Top
-
Music festivals

We help students with:
-
Ensemble coaching
-
Guidance in selecting music
-
Performance experiences
The CSA staff will organize ensembles based on student age, instrument, and playing experience. The level of improvement moves quickly and steadily once students have a solid foundation in playing.

Please note, there is no audition requirement to enroll and start Solo and Small Ensemble Coaching Sessions. However, we will need a recording of two to three minutes so that we may accurately place new students who are not beginners. If you are unable to submit a recording, please send us an email, and we will set up a short Zoom meeting.
